How To Plan The Ultimate Gender Reveal Party

Are you planning a Gender Reveal Party?! Today we are sharing our top tips and tricks for planning the party and the big reveal!

With doing IVF, Jake I we knew way in advance that we were pregnant.  We had quite some time to figure out what we wanted to do for a gender reveal party!  For us we wanted it to be a celebration with our neighborhood and friends that have supported us on our infertility journey!  We knew this could be a fun way to say thank you to so many who were involved in this process. A twin gender reveal celebration party seemed like just the right thing to do! After having the party, I am SOO GLAD we did it! It was so much fun and a great way to celebrate all together.

We knew we would be finding out at the of beginning of May the twins genders.  For themes we were toying with a blue and pink party, or a fiesta since Cinco De Mayo would be coming up.  Ultimately we ended up going with a blue and pink party since we had done a big fiesta graduation party for Jake when he graduated with an MBA.

Planning and getting ready for a gender reveal party can be a big preparation, so we wanted to share with you all some tips to hopefully make planning your celebration a breeze!  Parties should be fun and exciting so we hope these tips will help as you create your ultimate reveal party!

Tips for Planning a Gender Reveal Party

Set A Theme- Are you doing traditional pink and blue, or something a little different? There are so many fun options! Pick a theme that sounds exciting and doable to you.

Pick A Party Date- Usually around 15-20 weeks you can find out at your ultrasound what you are having.  With a costly blood test you can find out at 10 weeks if you are dying to know. Talk to your OB doctor and figure out a date of when you will find out the genders.  If you want to be surprised make sure to let the ultrasound tech know before they start your appointment.

I would recommend making the party a week after you find out the genders. That way there is time if you order cannons or speciality cakes for the reveal. That amount of time between the party can be super tempting to open the envelope, but if you can wait till the reveal to find out the genders that would be so fun! If you are waiting to find out the genders, make sure you find someone you can count on who can purchase the big reveal item for you and keep a secret as well.

Create A Guest List- I honestly feel like knowing how many guests you want to invite makes all the rest of the steps so much easier! I like to keep a running note on my phone with a invite list. That way if I run into anyone I can quickly add them to my list to make sure I invite them to the party!

Send Out Invitations- Time to start inviting! It’s nice to let people know the date you will be doing the reveal a little bit in advance. It’s always fun to mail out invites but texting invites is easy and great too! Family and friends will be so excited for you that you are pregnant they will want to put the date in their calendars and come support you on the big day!

I made a digital invite and texted it out and also invited by word of mouth. We had just gotten back from Shanghai so I wasn’t as good at inviting as I wanted! There were so many people I wanted to invite and ended up running out of time to send them an invite. Invite early so you can make sure you included everyone you want to celebrate with!

Look For Party Inspiration- Start searching Pinterest, etsy, google images and blogs for gender reveal party inspiration.  Think food table, treats, drinks, decor, balloons, etc. This is the fun part to start pulling ideas and see what you want to create. Remember this is your party, you can go as simple or as big as you want!

Make a game plan of the overall party-   I like to make a few vision boards of all the things I am wanting for the party.  This always helps me narrow down what I am wanting it all to look like. For me I think of the food table, the welcome table, the reveal, the overall vibe. I’ll think of each area of the party, and what I want it to look like. From there I’ll create a shopping list of items needed and also raid the house for what I already have.

Plan The BIG REVEAL!- This can be a hard choice! There are so many fun ways to do the big surprise! Balloons, smoke bombs, cutting a cake, confetti cannons, etc. I wanted to do something that would have a big “BANG.” In addition to something that all the guests could participate in. We ordered 40 confetti cannons and they were a hit! They were quite a mess to clean up, but all the guests really enjoyed the cannons and it made the moment so magical! Worth it!

Figure out if you want to know the genders before your guests, or if you want to find out at the reveal- If you haven’t already, time to decide if you want to know your babies gender before the reveal or find out at the party! Jake and I were planning on finding out the genders at the party but decided to find out early before we went to Shanghai. I knew I would be emotional and wanted to focus on guests while at the party so I decided to find out early. For Jake I surprised him on our plane flight to Shanghai for our early Babymoon the twin baby genders. It was a special moment for us!

Set a budget and start shopping!- Now for the fun part! Once you know your theme and the vibe aesthetic you want for the party, time to shop! You can go as budget friendly as you want and ask to borrow dishes, table clothes, etc. from friends. Or you can get all those supplies yourself and have them on hand for your next parties! I am a huge fan of owning the party supplies so I have them for all future parties! Do what works best for you and your budget!

I love shopping sales and finding good deals for parties. Typically I have found Amazon, Target and Walmart are great places to shop for party items! If you are looking for unique custom items, Etsy is always a great place to search. That is where we found the “Team Pins.” If you have local party stores they can be great resources too.

Things To Think About- Do you want guests to dress up in blue or pink? Wear pins/stickers with their gender reveal guess? For food do you want treats or savory foods too? Indoor or outdoor party?

Hire Out Help Where Needed- For me I love a darling food spread, but I don’t enjoy being in the kitchen for long hours. With this party I wanted to focus on making decorations so I knew I needed help with the food. My favorite dessert place called The Chocolate came to the rescue and created the cutest spread for gender reveal treats! I loved how all the pink and blue turned out and added some color to the table. All the guests ate up all the treats and really enjoyed them! It made me so happy!

The Chocolate also delivered the treats to us on the day of the party and that was such a huge help! On the day of a party, there can be a lot to do and a pile of last minute items to attend to. Having food catered and delivered is an awesome way to go! A HUGE thanks to The Chocolate for always being so awesome and making the best treats EVER!

Documenting The Reveal- Consider for your gender reveal hiring a photographer to come document the moment. My sweet photographer friend Mckenzie Deakins came and photographed the party and my gal Amanda walked around and videoed it all for us. It was so nice to be able to enjoy the party and not worry about the special moment being captured. Both friends did such an amazing job! I was so grateful!

Since I live in a diffrent state than most of my family I also asked someone to do a little phone video that we could text to all our family that wasn’t able to make it to the party. We wanted to fill them all in Live for the reveal, but Jakes entire family and my entire family except my mom was able to come. That is a lot of people (30+ adults) to coordinate with! It seemed really stressful to get everyone connected online, so we let everyone know a recorded video would be texted out after the party.

Have Fun!- Last but not least, have fun! This is a wonderful and amazing celebration! You are pregnant and you have a sweet babe on the way! Nothing more amazing than that! Take time to soak it all in and enjoy the fun!

We are so grateful for so many that have cheered us on in this infertility adventure! We are so grateful for our 2 baby girls on the way and all those that celebrated with us in person and online!
