Ever wonder what its like to go to an ultrasound and find out you are having twins?! Today we are sharing our Twin pregnancy announcement!

Words cannot express my gratitude or even exactly how I am feeling right now! My heart is just exploding of happiness! I seriously feel like I have glitter and confetti coming out of my ears and eyeballs! Jake and I are went in for our 7 week pregnancy ultrasound and found out we are having TWINS!!!! We even got to hear the heartbeats of both babies for the first time and it was such an amazing experience I will never forget!

With IVF 10-14 days after your embryo transfer, you visit the fertility clinic for a blood test to test your HCG levels to see if you are pregnant. When we got the call that we were officially pregnant, we felt so grateful and excited! I have done a few blood tests since our first one and it has been fun to see the HCG levels rise.

At 6 weeks my HCG levels came back at 28,000. The doctors were hoping that they would be around 10,000 so when I heard 28,000 I had a feeling that we were going to have twins. Jake and I didn’t want to get our hopes up but we had a pretty good feeling about it! The neat thing about IVF is they monitor you pretty closely during this first part of your pregnancy. With a regular pregnancy you usually go in around 10-12 weeks for your first ultra sound, but with IVF you get to go in at 7 weeks.

7 Week Ultra Sound

Today when we went in for our first ultra sound. I could hardly sleep last night I was soooo excited! Plus I was going to the bathroom every few hours in the middle of the night, so I would get re-excited every time I woke up! I told myself that if the news was bad, or if it was awesome that either way I would smile, be happy and grateful.

Jake and I scheduled our appointment for the first thing in the morning so we wouldn’t have to wait in suspense all day! I got ready for the vaginal ultrasound and sat down with the paper towel over me. Jake and I looked at each other and just didn’t know what to think or do! I have done tons of ultrasounds before, but I didn’t know what to expect for this one!

The sweet nurse Susie came in and started the ultrasound. First thing we all noticed was the twins! Jake and I got teary eyed right away! I had been looking an ultrasounds of twins in advance so I knew what to look for. We saw the two sections and 2 babies!! Both embryos we put in took! Wahoo!!

Next Susie measured baby A. Baby A will be delivered first with a vaginal or c-section birth because they are the closet to the cervix. Baby A measured 6 weeks and 5 days . Then she showed us the baby A’s heartbeat! And then turned on the sound! We got to hear our babies heartbeat! Can I say hands down theeee most incredible experience of my life?!?! Just writing about it right now is making me cry! It was such a special moment! Baby A’s heartbeat was at 127 beats per minute! Go Baby A go!!

By this time I was getting so excited to see how Baby B was doing! Baby B measured 7 weeks and 1 day and a heartbeat of 131 beats per minute. By the time we got to hear Baby B’s heartbeat, I was just bawling! All of us in that room were soooo excited and just soo happy! Susie has been so great and has done ultrasounds with us when we were measuring our follicles each day, so to be measuring babies today was pretty awesome!

After the ultrasound, Susie had a bunch of pictures printed out of our cute babies!!!! I have always seen ultrasound pictures, but getting handed pictures of your babies and your ultrasound…. wow! Things just got real! Real exciting and awesome!! I got dressed, and then Jake and I headed out to talk and get our next steps.

Next Steps

Next up, we have another ultrasound in 2 weeks to check on the…. TWINS!!!! I am looking forward to that! After that we will switch over to an OBYGN for the rest of this process. With IVF they want me to go in at 10 weeks and 12 weeks as well for ultrasounds. I don’t know if I could ever get tired of ultra sounds and checking on the babies, I can’t wait for more appointments!

Finding an OBYGN is on my to do list as well. The doctors office gave me a few recommendations, so I will need to call around to some places and do some interviews! It seems to be really popular these days for doctors to group together at a clinic and so you might see a different doctor for every appointment and not know who is going to deliver your babies. Being more of a high risk pregnancy (age and twins) that makes me a little nervous with multiple doctors at a clinic, so I really want to do my research.

I also want to find a doctor who is comfortable doing a breech birth. That is really important to me because if baby A is head first ready to come out vaginally, I don’t want the doctor to switch to a c-section after one delivery because the next baby is breech.

We also need to make sure the doctors deliver at a hospital with a great NICU. Typically with twins they spend a little bit of time in the NICU, so we don’t want to have to transfer from a hospital to another one right after having the babies, so that is something to research out in advance too!

I also want to take some breathing classes, and other things that to get us prepared for child birth so I am going to look into those and sign up for a few! When Jake and I started this IVF process I told myself I was going all in for these babies! Whatever time, resources, energy, etc. it was going to take, I was going to go for it!

Current Medications

For medications I am still taking Endometrin (progesterone) 3 times a day. The doctor will have me take those until 10 weeks or so. I am so grateful to take a vaginal pill vs. shots in my bum everyday! Feeling super grateful about that!

I am also supposed to be taking prenatal vitamins and a baby asprin right now as well! In addition I am taking an OnGuard Plus softgel everyday (I do not want to get sick!) and DDR Prime. DDR Prime has some amazing oils in it that are really great on a cellular level, so while the babies are growing strong, that is a must for me!

We also found out on our ultrasound that my ovaries are pretty swollen still from the egg retrieval! Time to drink electrolyte to help with that! My friend recommended Nuun to add to your water, so I am going to try those! She said her favorite flavors are grape, strawberry lemonade and fruit punch. It’s hard to find any electrolyte drinks without any added sugars or dextrose type of products! If anyone finds any, please let me know!

Baby Blueberries

When we got home from our appointment I looked on my pregnancy app and discovered the babies are sizes of blueberries! It’s pretty neat because I have the actually measurements of them, but it’s still fun to reference that they are like blueberries for a visual! I know I am already a biased soon to be mom but, they are the cutest blueberries I have ever seen!

Jake and I have really enjoyed following along on our pregnancy on the “What to Expect” app. They also have a website you can follow along on as well! It has little videos each weeks explaining how the baby is progressing. There is also little headers with possible things you might be feeling and how to help with those things.

Twin Babies Due Date

We are due October 15th to have our babies! The fertility clinic told us to be ready a month in advance to have the babies since twins often arrive early! So it’s possible middle of September/end of September we will have our precious babies in our arms!

Jake and I know this process is all still so new and fresh, but we are staying positive and hoping for the best for these kiddos! We can’t wait to be their parents! We have been praying for these kids for a very long time and are so excited it’s their time to come to our home!

I am trying to hold off on buying any baby supplies till we get further along out the babies genders at 16-20ish weeks so until then I will be doing a lot of research on what supplies we need for the babies! I created a spreadsheet with all the things I have been looking into and anytime some refers baby items they love! For sure we are getting 2 SNOO’s , the reviews for them are incredible and they are must for Jake and I! If there are anything you have loved for your babies, we would love to hear your recommendations! This entire baby world is so new to us, we are ready to learn and research all we can!

    Hello Bang Family-
We love your story of twins, wow what a beautiful journey! Sending our love.

My husband and I have been on the infertility & IVF train for a 7 years. We finally decided to go with an egg donor-my eggs just weren’t surviving the journey. So another $15k but I’m happy to say we have 4 excellent embryos!
We prepped for embryo transfer last month but I stressed myself into shingles (sigh no fun) but ultimately I have to trust my body is telling me “this isn’t our month” so I stopped all the hormones and now we’re back on track for a April 16th transfer!!!

Our biggest stress is how many embryos do we transfer-I’m sure you had this talk on your journey. My husband (a firefighter) and I are now 43…high risk has become my new middle name lol. I seriously used to cringe when I heard it out-loud., now I’m immune. But because of our age we don’t see 2 pregnancies in our future-this is our one shot. What to do right-so now we’re worried about future babies health & now my own. Lots to think & stress about-sigh.

Thank you for sharing your story & journey… In some weird way it’s comforting to hear other couples stories and feel some familiarity in infertility.

Please keep posting supplements, pictures & videos, highs & lows, tips, nutrition. I’m planning to amp up my acupuncture ASAP!

More awkward holidays dinners with table conversation and questions from strangers asking if we have kids & why we don’t…

So we wait…meditate…stare into our vision board…light candles quartz rocks and pray god will bless us with a little blessing (or two)
