Ideas For Coming Up With Baby Names

Trying to figure out what to name your baby?! Today we are sharing fun and unique ways to find the perfect name for your child!

Coming up with baby names can be a big decision and responsibility! Instead of the process being overwhelming, we wanted to share some fun ways you and your partner to search for names! Today we are sharing a few ways to help find the perfect name for your baby!

Jake and I have had so much fun trying to come up with names for the twins and went through all of these on the list to come up with names! There are lots of names we love, so we are so glad with get to pick out two names! We picked out our top 4 names and decided well wait to meet the girls before we officially choose which names we go with.

Look Through The Family Tree

Personally this is my favorite way to look for a baby name. Look through your family tree as well as your spouses. Any names you like or that stick out to you write them down and add them to a list.

Blend Your Favorite Names Together

I have heard of couples having a hard time deciding on just one name they like so they blend the names together that they love.

Use A Last Name First

I have had a few friends do this. They named one of their kids Harris after a family last name. In Drew Barrymore’s book Wildflower, she explained how she named her daughter Frankie after her mother in law whose last name was Franko.

Baby Name Generator

Have you heard of these!?!? If you are stuck this could be a good place to come up with some ideas for names.

Check Out Name Fads

This may be something you do or do not care about. If you want a popular name, check out what the current fads are on a google search and pick your favorite!

Think About People You Admire

Is there someone you love or really admire?! Using their name for your baby could be a fun way to honor that person as well as name your baby after someone awesome!

Name Your Baby After A Significant Event

Do you and your spouse have a super fun memory together?! You could name your baby after something significant from that event.

Pick Out Nicknames

Are there any nicknames you love?! You can pick a name for your baby off of a favorite nick name!

Look To Nature/ Environment

If you look around your surrounds there may be some names you love! River, Reed, Skye, Poppy… etc. Look at city names, flower names, river names, to come up with ideas.

When In Doubt Google

Google is always a great place to find some info. You can look up local heros, popular names, unique names, and come up with some good ideas that way!

Once you pick your names, beware of critics! I have heard lots of couples loving a name and then a family member or friend really crushes that dream. If there are names you and your spouse love, hang on to those, meet your babe and see if the name fits and go for it! Usually family is supportive, but just incase, consider on who you tell your names too 🙂 Or if you just love them, share them away and just don’t care what anyone else thinks! This is your babe and you will be the one calling them by name every day!

I agree, naming a baby is a fun process, I should know because I’ve done it three times hehe. I like the ways you listed here and we actually used some of them. I just have to add that we also used to search from a thick book of baby names (so creative, not!) which is how we got our second child’s name.

These are such fun ways to come up with baby names! I wish I had this list when I was preggo with my son. My husband eventually came up with our son’s name and he named him after a city in Italy, which my hubby’s family are from. I then picked his middle name based on where I was born. I can’t wait to hear what you and Jake picked out for the names of your twins!

This is such a great post. When we named our first son, it was pretty easy because we both really liked one name. For the second boy we were stumped so we used a baby name generator that took our first son’s name and gave us other names that people liked as well. So exciting that you are naming 2 babies. Waiting until you meet them is a great idea!

These are great ideas for naming a baby. We had baby books to refer to, but this makes it much more personal and you’re less likely to offend a family member or close friend with one of these suggestions. Plus, you’re less likely to have children with the same names as 5 of their closest friends. I love those little blue dresses and you look so gorgeous, as always, but with an extra glow now!
